Sushi bars and japanese food are trendiest as ever – however, Yoji’s could be sometimes quite repetitive – and you could like to discover other (good) spots.
1. The most japanese: Ryokan Hasenberg (Gault & Millau ranked)
To reach the graal, you need to drive during 20 minutes from Zurich downtown. But it worth it. Ryokan offer a degustation menu with variety of fresh and well-executed japanese specialties. Or you can opt for the shushi bar. Most of all, I would recommend you to ask for a “zimmer restaurant” and have a unique experience in a real japanese dining room (experience I unfortunately did not enjoyed as we misunderstood at the reservation)
Address:Hasenbergstrasse 74 – CH-8967 Widen
Price: raisonnable considering zurich standards
One deception: to have a Tomy Mayo dressing with the amazingly good vegetables rolls.
2. Sala of Tokyo: you can’t escape (Gault & Millau ranked)
Sala of Tokyo is a gourmet kind of Japanese restaurant. Everything is good there, especially the amazing Kobe Beef. Service is impeccable. Perfect for a romantic dinner – dress up and forget your purse at home. Limmatstrasse 29 – 8005 Zurich
3. The perfect alternative to shushis: Bimi
Love Bimi because the menu demonstrates the large and rich variety of the Japanese food – you just don’t know any more what to choose !
If you feel like cooking your own Japanese food at home, you will find useful product at the shop !
Address: Seefeldstrasse 25 – 8008 Zurich (near Bellevue)
4. Why not trying the special Japanese noddles, the Ramen ?
Ikoo is different from other Jap restaurants here. The atmospehre is different, the food is different. It’s hard to describe, better to go and see. Ramen and soups are good and sometimes surprising, and you won’t be hungry anymore after a meal there. Bäckerstrasse 39 – 8004 Zürich – reservation by phone for dinner only.
5. My Sushi Bars
Sora Sushi: The little new one, little sister of the famous Sala of Tokyo. A little bit hard to find it… Appreciated the glass of plum wine to end the dinner. Bahnhofplatz 15 – direkt am gleis 5 – 8001

Ginger: fresh, good, well-done. You won’t be disappointed. If you choose “à la carte” for a large choice of japanese dishes, you can’t escape the “surprise menu”. – Seefeldstrasse 62 – 8008 Zurich
Kai Sushi: Love the fact that dishes are “seasonal” and the original association of tastes. Love that they deliver at home, even late when too lazy to cook or to eat out – love the idea of giving cooking classes ! Lessingstrasse 3 – 2002 Zürich
Shinshen: is a total hidden spot. Love the freshness of the products, the intimate decorating and to see what’s going on in the kitchen. Loved it so much that My Secret Zueri already spotted it ! – Staffelstrase 10 – 8045 Zurich
