Located in Badenerstrasse, Queen Idia is a must go either for West African cuisine lovers or for gourmets with opened taste buds. The restaurant’s name refers to the mother of Oba Esigie, the king who ruled, from 1504 to 1550, the ancient Benin Empire (based in the current southern Nigeria), land of the Edo people. Renowned strong warrior, she played a determinant role in the reign of her son.
The Queen Idia’s cook offers a fine selection of flavoured and tasty Nigerian traditional food that you can savour it in a warm and familiar atmosphere. Among the numerous specialties is served Fufu (a nice dough made with cassava, plantains or yam flour) with meat in sauce based of okra, melon seeds, or even peanuts. We are impressed by the diversity of the dishes and ingredients!
Also, the delicious African beers reveal the secret spices of your plate and soothe the sensitive mouths to chilli. Icing on the cake, if you are totally has-been regarding African music, Queen Idia is the right place to discover the best on-trend hits and styles from the continent: naija, ndombolo, coupé décalé…Good to know: Queen Idia can be your caterer if you want to give an African touch to your private parties, and delivers home via Smood.
